AI Engineer: Unified Product Lifecycle
We are building a dedicated AI Function to deliver intelligent capabilities across our product portfolio and across how we operate as a business.
Bracknell, UK (Hybrid – 2 days per week in office)
ABOUT BASIS TECHNOLOGIES
Basis Technologies enables every SAP-run business to manage change intelligently – no matter how complex their technology landscape. Our Intelligent Change Management (ICM) solutions harness the collective intelligence of the SAP community to help business and technology change teams explore, plan, and execute business change imperatives.
We are building a dedicated AI Function to deliver intelligent capabilities across our product portfolio and across how we operate as a business. This team is not just building AI features – it is shaping the foundations of how Basis Technologies thinks, builds, and ships with AI.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for an AI Engineer to help us build a coherent, AI-native product lifecycle – one where AI is not bolted on at the edges but embedded in how we take ideas from discovery through to delivery and beyond.
This is a role for an engineer who thinks in systems. You will work across the full lifecycle of how Basis builds its products – from early-stage design and engineering through to sales, marketing, and customer delivery – identifying where agentic AI tooling can create genuine coherence and eliminate friction between stages. You will not be managing change programmes or running training sessions. You will be building the infrastructure, workflows, and integrations that make AI-native ways of working possible.
You will work closely with the wider AI Function and with teams across the business to understand how work actually flows, where the seams and bottlenecks are, and how agentic AI patterns can be applied to create a more connected and intelligent product lifecycle.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Design and build agentic AI workflows that connect and automate handoffs across the product lifecycle – from engineering and QA through to delivery and sales
Evaluate and select AI tooling across the lifecycle, establishing coherent standards for how different teams build and interact with AI capabilities
Build MCP integrations and API layers that allow AI capabilities to operate across existing systems and workflows
Identify where AI can surface context, reduce duplication, and improve decision-making as work moves between teams and lifecycle stages
Work with product, engineering, delivery, and sales teams to understand their workflows and design AI-native improvements grounded in how the business actually operates
Contribute to AI governance and compliance readiness, supporting the organisation's approach to the EU AI Act and ISO 42001
Collaborate closely with the rest of the AI Function to ensure the tooling and patterns you build are consistent with the shared AI platform
IS THIS OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU?
Essential experience and skills:
Hands-on experience in AI engineering, building production AI/ML systems
Demonstrable experience with agentic AI patterns: multi-step actions, tool use, state management, and defined guardrails
Experience with MCP or similar AI integration patterns, and the ability to design service boundaries between AI capabilities and existing systems
Strong software engineering fundamentals: TypeScript or Python, API design, automation scripting, CI/CD pipelines
Experience working across multiple teams or business functions – you understand how to navigate different stakeholder contexts and translate between technical and non-technical thinking
Comfortable with ambiguity: this role involves working in a business context that is not yet fully defined, and shaping the approach as you go
Desirable skills:
Background in DevOps, platform engineering, or developer experience roles
Experience designing tooling or workflow automation used by non-engineering teams
Familiarity with SAP BTP ecosystem
Understanding of EU AI Act requirements and ISO 42001
