Platform Engineering Manager (SRE)
Bring the battle scars from running 24/7 cloud products. Lead SRE and platform engineering for Klario and our Private Cloud, and define what great reliability looks like at Basis Technologies.
Bracknell, UK (Remote / Hybrid, minimum 2 days per week in office) | Engineering | Reporting to VP Engineering
The Opportunity
Basis Technologies is at an exciting point in its growth. PE-backed, named one of the UK's Best Workplaces by Great Place to Work for three years running, and building the next generation of our Intelligent Change Management platform with Klario, we are scaling the engineering foundations that keep our cloud products fast, reliable, and trusted by some of the world's largest SAP-run businesses.
We are hiring a Platform Engineering Manager (SRE) to own reliability and platform engineering for Klario and our Private Cloud estate. This is a hands-on leadership role and a genuine build. Our platform support is currently delivered by external specialists in a largely reactive model, and your job is to change that: to bring a proactive Site Reliability Engineering mindset, define what good looks like, select the right tooling, and grow a permanent team around you.
You will have carried the pager for products that have to be up around the clock. You know what breaks at scale, you have the battle scars to prove it, and you are the person who spots the missing piece (a status page, an error budget, a monitoring gap) and puts it in place before anyone has to ask.
You will report to the VP Engineering and have real ownership of the function from day one.
Key Responsibilities
Platform Delivery
Own the engineering platform roadmap across Klario and Private Cloud, and deliver the improvements that accelerate software delivery and operational performance. Build and maintain core platform capabilities: CI/CD pipelines, build and release automation, infrastructure automation, environment management, observability, and developer tooling. Drive standardisation and reduce engineering friction through automation and self-service.
Site Reliability Engineering
Introduce and embed SRE practices across Engineering. Improve reliability, resilience, recoverability, and operational readiness. Stand up monitoring, alerting, logging, and service health capabilities, including public-facing uptime and status visibility. Partner with Product Owners to define SLOs and error budgets, and lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
Team Leadership
Lead and coordinate the existing external platform engineers, then recruit, onboard, and develop a permanent team of Platform Engineers and SREs. Define objectives, priorities, and ways of working, and build a culture that values ownership, reliability, and continuous improvement. You will act as hiring manager as the function grows.
Klario Platform Enablement
Ensure a production-ready engineering platform for Klario running on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Implement automated deployment, testing, monitoring, and operational processes that meet enterprise expectations for reliability, security, and scalability, and partner with Klario Engineering to improve developer experience and delivery velocity.
Private Cloud Platform Modernisation
Assess the current Private Cloud toolchain and operational processes, then improve and standardise CI/CD across product teams. Reduce manual deployment activity through automation, and introduce consistent engineering practices across build, test, deployment, and release.
Customer Platform Support and Delivery
Act as the senior engineering escalation point for complex, platform-related customer issues, providing third-line support across infrastructure, database, networking, operating system, cloud platform, and deployment. Support Customer Delivery teams with architecture guidance, sizing, and deployment standards, and develop reference architectures and operational best practices.
Is this opportunity for you?
We care far more about your reliability mindset than about any single platform. These are the things that matter most:
A proven track record running 24/7, customer-facing cloud products in production. You have owned uptime, carried the pager, and have the battle scars that come from keeping real products running at scale.
A background built in cloud product or SaaS companies, where reliability is something customers feel directly.
Deep, hands-on SRE expertise: monitoring, observability, alerting, incident management, and operational readiness. You can define what good looks like and stand up foundational SRE practices, from SLOs and error budgets to public uptime and status visibility, where little exists today.
Strong hands-on experience with a major cloud platform (AWS or Azure). We are platform-agnostic in how we hire: the right mindset matters more than a specific platform, and we will teach you SAP BTP.
Solid CI/CD, build and release, and infrastructure automation experience across a modern engineering toolchain.
The seniority and leadership instinct to set direction, choose tooling, and build a team. Whether you are already leading a small platform or SRE team, or ready to step up and grow one, this is a player-coach role: hands-on, close to the work, and accountable for the function.
Desirable, not required
Exposure to SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), or genuine appetite to become expert in it.
Experience partnering with Product Owners to set and manage SLOs and error budgets.
Experience taking a function from outsourced or managed support to a permanent in-house team.
Familiarity with public status page and uptime tooling.
